LATA’s technique course has been the greatest investment I’ve made in my tango. The online instructional videos are so well done— Liz breaks down the mechanics so clearly AND also discusses common mistakes that can show up in those movements. The selection of drills are extensive (updated monthly) and build upon each other so elegantly (the mechanics emphasized in 1* exercises facilitate the more difficult 3* exercises). Liz and Emma are also incredibly encouraging and insightful guides during the live Zoom classes. It has been such a gift to continue connecting virtually with the tango community and I’m so pleased that I continue to progress, even during quarantine. I cannot recommend this course highly enough!!!

The Los Angeles Tango Academy has set the standard for online tango instruction with comprehensive classes to keep you improving your dance whether you have access to a partner or not. I do their hour long Full Workout class as often as possible. They offer live zoom classes three times a week which allow you to ask the instructors about your technique. Each month they change some of the drills to keep your workout fresh and challenging. I have been able to dance every day during quarantine thanks to LATA. You can also learn about the music, how to strengthen your feet to dance in heels, and do strengthening and stretching exercises. It is also incredibly affordable. there is a low flat monthly fee the more you practice the cheaper it gets! I do a class every day and after only about a month really feel the improvement especially in strength and balance.

Instructor

Liz Hutchinson

Liz Hutchinson began her dance training in Seattle at the age of 3, studying ballet, modern and contemporary dance, contact improv, and many other styles. She received her BA in Dance and BS in Math from the University of Washington and has since focused on Argentine tango. Her 25+ years of dance experience, knowledge of anatomy, and geometer's brain have strongly informed and shaped her into a unique and powerful tango dancer. Liz began teaching tango in 2011 in Seattle. She has since taught workshops, performed, and DJ'd around the US, Europe, and Argentina. From 2017-2019 she ran Rose City Tango Academy in Portland, OR. And in 2019, she relocated to Los Angeles and began teaching with LA Tango Academy.

Instructor

Emma Bogren

Born and raised in Sweden, Emma Bogren grew up in a family of artists and musicians. As a child, Emma fondly remembers her grandfather playing old Tango records and singing along to the great singers of a bygone era. The following decade Emma devoted herself to art, competitive gymnastics and extensive studies in jazz and classical music. Her background in music and performance art has sent her around the globe, eventually settling in Los Angeles. In her journey to develop greater body control and movement, she rediscovered tango, and fell head over heels in love with its physical expression of music and emotion. She loves to share this art form with everyone and is proud of bringing the LA Tango Academy to a new wave of artists.

Instructor

Richard Cepeda

Richard Cepeda discovered Argentine Tango unexpectedly in 2009. While studying Industrial Engineering, a fateful encounter with Argentine Tango changed the course of his life. After 3 years of intense immersion, he was asked to teach tango lessons at the University of South Florida. This sparked an interest in Tango pedagogy finding the most effective methods of communicating and developing dancers from the ground up. In 2015, he co-founded the LA Tango Academy. Through the school he has introduced tango to hundreds of new dancers, many of whom have become dedicated Tango dancers. LA Tango Academy is now one of the largest tango schools in North America and a sought after destination for students from around the world.
